Canon equips Hibernian Group with the latest environmental print strategy in a contract worth €700,000...

- Canon enables leading insurer Hibernian to increase efficiency, reduce paper wastage and minimise environmental impact through a balanced deployment of printing technology

- Managed print service from Canon includes eMaintenance - remotely monitoring machine health and ensuring maximum up-time

Reigate, 5 March 2008 - Canon, a world leader in digital imaging technology, completed the deployment of a new print strategy at the Dublin headquarters of Hibernian Group, Ireland’s largest insurer. The contract, which is worth €700,000, creates a new blueprint for Hibernian’s print needs.

Canon and Hibernian worked together to develop a strategic and environmentally friendly Managed Print Service (MPS) that would reduce printing costs and paper consumption. As part of the contract Canon has installed 48 multifunctional devices (MFDs) with colour and black & white MFDs combined with desktop printers, to ensure an appropriate device is utilised for every print job.

Canon also installed uniFLOW Output Manager across the organisation, which sends print jobs to a single queue, enabling employees to securely access their document from any device in the building. Hibernian operates a cashless system and employees are issued with a swipe-card to use the buildings’ facilities and shops, as well as accessing company resources. Not only does this ensure the security of sensitive information and cut wastage of forgotten print-outs but it also provides details of all print jobs that can be accessed centrally, allowing Hibernian to monitor and control usage, and therefore costs.

The card-swiping system forms part of the solution to cut down on the amount of paper that the company uses each year, a key environmental triumph for the business. Efficient use of the hardware in this way, coupled with ongoing on-site support from Canon, ensures a reassuringly reliable print service.

As part of the managed print services that Canon offers, Hibernian is taking advantage of eMaintenance, its remote monitoring service. eMaintenance means that any error code issued by a Canon machine is sent directly to its service team, informing them of any service or parts needed. These are relayed to an on-site Canon technician who can take immediate action when necessary, ensuring a high degree of business continuity and availability.

In addition to eMaintenance, Canon has also trained “super users” on each floor to enable workers to trouble shoot where possible. Both of these measures act as preventative maintenance, meaning that minor problems can be dealt with in-house or remotely so the machines enjoy maximum up-time.

Stephen Pitcher, Executive Manager, Group Property & Procurement, Hibernian said: “Hibernian is Ireland’s number one composite insurer and we maintain this position by always putting the customer first and equipping our business with the latest technologies to help us deliver the best possible service. Our partnership with Canon was a strategic fit and has resulted in an intelligent system that suits the way we work, helping us deliver on service excellence. Hibernian measures all suppliers against set criteria, which include productivity, cost and environmental responsibility and Canon was able to provide solutions and add value in all these key areas.”

Maurice Teague, Head of Canon Business Solutions, Canon Ireland, said: “Hibernian is a landmark customer for us in Ireland and we are proud that the company’s state-of-the-art premises are using Canon’s very latest print solutions. We worked closely with Hibernian to ensure that the best practise it has developed for its business is mirrored in the print solution we provided. Increasingly, companies such as Hibernian are moving towards a managed print service, which enables them to reduce both costs and environmental impact.”

“Following this successful installation we look forward to rolling out Canon’s print technology to the company’s other main sites.”
