IT Energy– launching the UK’s first system integrator focused solely on Green IT in the workplace
- Innovative power management and printer waste solutions provides easy first steps toward greener IT -
Sussex, UK – 7th April 2008 – IT Energy, the first specialist systems integrator for Green IT solutions, is set to launch its product and service portfolio at the upcoming Green IT 2008 event at a time when ecologically friendly IT has never been so high on the agenda.
With a portfolio aimed at helping all organisations make immediate power and consumable saving from its desktop PC and workgroup printer community, Matt Crane, Managing Director for IT Energy believes that this market is currently under serviced, “There is a lot of focus on the datacenter and with 11 million desktop PC users in the UK workplace, simple changes to how we manage power and how we print documents can have a massive impact on both energy consumption and recycling.”
IT Energy was originally conceived in late 2007 as a result of increased interest from existing customers of parent company Prosperon Networks Ltd, “While working with several large customers, we were asked about Green IT and when we looked at the market – there were no dedicated systems integrators that focused solely on the issue at the desktop level.”
“Part of our portfolio is focused on power management solutions for desktop PC’s, working closely with our customers we provide accurate methods to measure energy consumption and help them identify the financial and carbon emission savings”
“Printer output is another key area of wastage in the office, the GreenPrint solution automatically identifies paper and toner wastage and allows the user to make simple quick changes before printing commences. “Typical examples on where we recover waste are where emails are printed with the last page/s disclaimer signatures, or in web printing where the last page is normally the web address line at the top. At a time when the average worker prints 38 pages per day and 9 of those pages can be classified as wastage that’s a lot of paper and money to be saved”
Crane stresses the quantifiable benefits of the energy solution, “One of our recent customer wins is a large legal firm who had very strict guidelines on quantifying savings which we were able to meet” he comments. “In this case, they will save around £44,000 in energy bills during 2008 which equates to 665,000kw of energy and over a 5 year period 1,429 metric tonnes of C02 emissions.”
“There are other additional key benefits to the IT department itself, with the software dramatically improving the success rates for backups, updates and patching. Utilising central control of power states, ensures that machines can be on and able to receive these roll-outs in a controlled manner and in a way that least impacts on end users.”
IT Energy uses products from a number of vendors including Verdiem, Faronics and GreenPrint who partner with Energy Star and Green Grid and The Climate Savers Computing Initiative.
“Talking about Green IT is a hot topic but many organisations are still struggling with the reality of taking the first step,” Crane adds, “Starting with something as simple as desktop PC’s and printer waste is relatively simple and generates immediate savings in both energy cost and resulting carbon footprint.”
IT Energy will be showcasing its solutions at the upcoming Green IT 2008 event, which will be taking place at the Business Design Centre in London between the 7th and 8th of May.
