Intelligent Spooling Device ISD300 Provides Easy Management and Print Job Decompression...

Brighton, UK, December 8th, 2005.
Network specialist SEH Technology UK Ltd. announces that Scotia Gas Networks (SGN, jointly owned by UK Energy company Scottish And Southern Energy (SSE) and Canadian companies Borealis Infrastructure Management Inc and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board), will implement a printing infrastructure using 62 ISD300 intelligent spooling devices. These devices are to provide efficient spooling and printing management for 430 printers at 61 sites, and are used in combination with the innovative ThinPrint compression technology for network printing and optimised bandwidth usage, supporting both desktop and Citrix printing.

“I have to say, I really do like the product – it really exceeded my expectations,” says Angus McAllister, Technical Architect (Server-Based Computing) at Scottish & Southern Energy after the first 15 devices have been deployed.

Ease of Management and Many Handy Features
The main reasons for SGN choosing the ISD300 were the ability to decompress ThinPrint print jobs and distribute them to other network print servers as well as the ability to handle point-and-print for automatic driver distribution to connecting clients. Furthermore, the device offers ease of management, auto-detection of printers by IP address range, and AD integration. “We will be using all of these features in the deployment,” says Angus McAllister.

Relief for Complex, Overworked Server Architectures
The ISD300 spool server appliance is a compact server designed to spool and manage all print jobs and print queues in a LAN. The ISD300 is easier to use than traditional spool systems and is more stable; users therefore benefit from a reduced TCO. In networks with highly complex, overworked server architectures, the ISD300 relieves existing server resources significantly. The device is thus perfectly suited for server-based computing environments like Citrix, workgroups, distributed networks using appliance technology, and branch outlets.
